Sri Vijaya Puram, May 9: The Directorate of Information, Publicity and Tourism (IP&T), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has invited applications from eligible tourism stakeholders, watersports operators and boat operators for registration and permission to conduct parasailing activities at Shaheed Dweep.
Officials stated that the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to promote leisure and recreational water sports activities under the niche tourism segment across various tourist destinations in the Islands.
According to the Directorate, a comprehensive “Risk Assessment and Safety Audit” has been conducted through the National Institute of Water Sports (NIWS), Goa, functioning under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
The safety audit and risk assessment exercise was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the A&N Islands Watersports Guidelines, 2015, to ensure that parasailing operations are conducted in a safe and regulated manner.
Following the assessment, three offshore sectors at Shaheed Dweep have been identified as suitable locations for conducting parasailing activities.
The identified locations include the offshore sectors of Laxmanpur Beach No. 1, Laxmanpur Beach No. 2 and Ramnagar Beach.
Officials said the introduction of parasailing facilities at these locations is expected to enhance tourism experiences and further strengthen adventure tourism activities in the Islands.
The Directorate has directed interested applicants to submit their applications in the prescribed format along with all required documents and certifications.
Applicants will be required to fulfil all eligibility conditions and safety requirements prescribed under the A&N Islands Watersports Guidelines, 2015 before permissions are granted.
Authorities stated that safety compliance remains a priority for all watersports activities in the Islands, especially for high-adventure recreational activities such as parasailing.
The Department said the move is intended to encourage professionally managed watersports activities while ensuring visitor safety and environmental protection standards are maintained.
Tourism officials believe that expanding regulated adventure tourism activities can help attract more visitors and create additional livelihood opportunities for local tourism operators and service providers.
Detailed guidelines, application forms, checklist of required documents and terms and conditions for the proposed activities can be obtained from the Adventure Watersports Section of the Directorate of IP&T, A&N Administration.
