Applications Invited for Fisheries Subsidies Under PMMSY in South Andaman

Applications have been invited from fishers, fish farmers, entrepreneurs and fisheries-related groups in South Andaman for availing subsidies under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). The scheme offers financial assistance for aquaculture ponds, hatcheries, fish kiosks, cold storage units, biofloc systems, fishing vessels and other fisheries infrastructure projects. Subsidies of 40 per cent for General category and 60 per cent for SC/ST/Women beneficiaries are available. Applications must be submitted by May 18, 2026.

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 9: The Fisheries Department has invited applications from eligible fishers, fish farmers, fish workers, fish vendors, self-help groups, entrepreneurs and fisheries-related organisations in South Andaman district for availing subsidies under various beneficiary-oriented activities of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).

Officials stated that the scheme aims to strengthen fisheries infrastructure, improve fish production, generate employment opportunities and support entrepreneurship in the fisheries sector across the Islands.

Applications have been invited from eligible beneficiaries including Fisheries Development Corporations, Fisheries Cooperatives, Fisheries Federations, Joint Liability Groups, Fish Farmers Producer Organisations, private firms, companies and individuals belonging to General, SC, ST, women and differently abled categories.

According to the Fisheries Department, the subsidy pattern under the scheme will be 40 per cent of the approved unit cost for General category beneficiaries and 60 per cent for SC, ST and women beneficiaries.

A wide range of fisheries and aquaculture-related activities have been included under the subsidy programme.

Major components include construction of new ponds for brackish-water aquaculture, freshwater fish hatcheries, fish feed mills, biofloc ponds, fish kiosks, open sea cages, ornamental fish rearing units and fish value addition enterprises.

The scheme also covers support for refrigerated vehicles, insulated vehicles, ice plants, cold storage units and modernisation of existing cold storage facilities.

Officials informed that subsidy support is also available for establishment of Matsya Seva Kendras, bivalve cultivation units, small marine fin fish hatcheries and Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) units.

Traditional fishermen can additionally avail support for acquisition of deep-sea fishing vessels, installation of bio-toilets in mechanised fishing vessels and communication and tracking devices such as VHF, DAT, NavIC and transponders.

Among the major subsidy components, support of up to Rs 120 lakh is available for acquisition of deep-sea fishing vessels for traditional fishermen.

Similarly, assistance has been proposed for fish value addition enterprise units with approved project costs up to Rs 50 lakh and fish feed mills with project costs up to Rs 30 lakh.

Officials said the scheme is intended to promote sustainable fisheries development, enhance post-harvest infrastructure and encourage adoption of modern technologies in aquaculture and fish marketing sectors.

The Fisheries Department has urged interested beneficiaries to approach the Zonal Fisheries Office, South Andaman or nearby Fish Landing Centres and Fisheries Sub-Stations for detailed guidelines, eligibility conditions and prescribed application formats.

Applications along with relevant documents must be submitted to the Zonal Fisheries Office, South Andaman or nearest Fisheries Sub-Stations on or before May 18, 2026.
