Sri Vijaya Puram, May 15: The valedictory function of the On-Job Training Programme organised by the Fishery Survey of India (FSI), Sri Vijaya Puram, for Government ITI trainees was held at the FSI campus on Wednesday.
The programme was conducted to provide practical training and technical exposure to ITI students in various aspects related to marine fisheries and onboard operations.
The 45-day training programme provided the trainees with comprehensive practical and theoretical exposure in various aspects of the fisheries sector. The programme covered important areas including marine fisheries, fabrication and repair of fishing gear, advanced net mending techniques, safety procedures and emergency protocols at sea, as well as operational activities associated with fisheries survey vessels. The trainees were also introduced to onboard practices, vessel handling procedures, and the day-to-day functioning of fisheries survey operations, enabling them to gain valuable hands-on experience and industry-oriented skills.

Shri A. Tiburtius, Deputy Director General (Fisheries), attended the function as the chief guest, while Shri CH. Venkatesh, Principal of Government ITI, participated as the guest of honour.
Officials and staff members of the Fishery Survey of India, trainees and invited guests were also present during the programme.
Addressing the gathering, officials highlighted the importance of practical industrial exposure and technical skill development for students pursuing vocational and marine-related trades.
During the programme, it was stated that opportunities in the fisheries and marine sectors continue to expand with growing demand for technically trained personnel in vessel operations, fishing technology and marine engineering support services.

Officials from FSI also informed that post-institutional onboard training opportunities may be extended to students who complete the two-year vessel navigator trade at ITI.
Representatives from Government ITI acknowledged the importance of institutional collaboration in strengthening vocational and technical education through field-based industrial exposure.
Officials stated that the training programme was conducted for the first time at the FSI Sri Vijaya Puram base in its present format.
According to organisers, the programme formed part of efforts to provide students with exposure to real-time operational systems and practical working environments connected to the fisheries sector.
During the valedictory function, certificates were distributed to trainees who successfully completed the programme.
Some trainees also shared their experiences during the event and spoke about the practical knowledge gained through exposure to onboard systems and fisheries-related operations.
Earlier, Dr. C. Babu, Fisheries Scientist and Course Officer for the programme, welcomed participants and highlighted the activities conducted during the training period.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri Puran Singh, Junior Fisheries Scientist.
