Sri Vijaya Puram, May 15: A fire incident involving a cooking gas cylinder was reported on the night of May 13 at Hari Nagar, Ward No. 6, under the jurisdiction of Billiground Fire Station. According to officials, they received the information regarding the incident at around 8:45 pm stating that a gas cylinder inside a residential house had caught fire and exploded.

Following the alert, personnel from the Billiground Fire Station rushed to the scene and immediately launched firefighting operations to bring the blaze under control. After intense efforts and a challenging operation, the firefighters successfully contained the fire before it could spread to nearby houses or cause extensive damage in the residential area.

During the operation, the fire personnel also managed to safely remove another gas cylinder that was kept inside the house, a timely action that significantly reduced the risk of a further explosion or a larger fire incident. Their swift response and careful handling of the situation helped prevent the blaze from escalating further and ensured the safety of nearby residents and surrounding properties.

The family residing in the house consists total of four members and all occupants reportedly escaped safely without sustaining injuries. Preliminary information suggests that the incident occurred while cooking was underway inside the residence.

According to preliminary findings, the incident is suspected to have occurred after cooking oil overheated during food preparation and accidentally spilled onto the gas cylinder or nearby flames, triggering the fire and the subsequent explosion inside the house. The sudden blaze quickly spread within the kitchen area, creating panic among the occupants and nearby residents.

Authorities stated that the exact cause of the incident is still under investigation, and a detailed examination is being carried out to determine the sequence of events that led to the fire. Officials are also assessing the extent of the damage caused to the property and reviewing all possible factors connected to the incident.

Kitchen fires involving LPG cylinders and overheated cooking oil remain among the more common causes of domestic fire accidents, particularly in congested residential areas where flames can spread rapidly if not controlled immediately. Basic precautions during cooking can significantly reduce the risk of such accidents.

Residents have been advised to avoid leaving cooking unattended, especially while frying food or heating oil at high temperatures. It is also importance of regularly checking LPG pipes, regulators and stove connections for leakage or damage.

In case of a kitchen fire involving oil or gas, it is advised that water should not be poured directly onto burning oil, as it can intensify the flames and spread the fire further.Instead, flames should be smothered using a wet cloth, metal lid or fire extinguisher if available.

Residents have also been advised to ensure proper ventilation in kitchens and keep flammable materials away from stoves and gas cylinders.

Fire safety experts recommend that households maintain basic emergency preparedness measures, including easy access to exits, awareness about emergency helpline numbers and safe placement of LPG cylinders.

And also quick reporting of fire incidents and timely response can help minimize damage and prevent loss of life during emergencies.

This incident once again highlights the importance of household fire safety awareness, particularly while handling LPG cylinders and cooking equipment in residential areas.
