Sri Vijaya Puram, May 15: Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC A&N Islands), in association with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), organised an Aids and Appliances Assessment Camp for inmates of the Disabled and Old Age Home at Abhuday Complex in Ferrargunj.
The programme was conducted under the initiative of the Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Vyoshri Kendra (PMDVK) in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare, Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
A total of 54 inmates were assessed during the camp, including 35 senior citizens and 19 Divyangjan.
A multidisciplinary team from CRC A&N Islands conducted assessments to identify suitable aids and assistive appliances based on the individual functional requirements of beneficiaries.
The assessment process included evaluation of mobility needs, physical support requirements and rehabilitation-related assistance for eligible inmates.
Officials stated that the camp aimed to facilitate access to assistive devices and rehabilitation support services for persons with disabilities and elderly residents.
As part of the programme, awareness and orientation sessions were also conducted on the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme and rehabilitation services available for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Participants were informed about healthcare support, rehabilitation services and welfare schemes intended for Divyangjan and elderly beneficiaries.

Officials said similar outreach programmes are being conducted periodically to improve accessibility to rehabilitation services and assistive support for vulnerable groups in the Islands.
