Sri Vijaya Puram, May 15: The Directorate of Arts and Culture, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, has invited applications for a month-long theatre workshop to be organised in collaboration with the National School of Drama during June 2026.
The workshop is intended for island residents interested in theatre, acting, plays and other performing arts activities.
The programme will be conducted in Sri Vijaya Puram and participation will be limited to 30 individuals only.

Selection of participants will be carried out by a committee comprising officials from the National School of Drama and the Directorate of Arts and Culture.
Authorities stated that applicants must be above 18 years of age and should be willing to attend the workshop regularly throughout the training period.
The workshop will include practical and theoretical sessions on acting, stagecraft, voice modulation, body movement and dramatic interpretation.
The sessions will be conducted by faculty members and theatre professionals associated with the National School of Drama.
The programme is expected to provide participants with exposure to various aspects of theatre production and stage performance.
According to the Directorate, the workshop forms part of ongoing cultural activities aimed at encouraging participation in performing arts among residents of the Islands.
The National School of Drama, based in New Delhi, is one of India’s premier theatre training institutions and regularly collaborates with state and regional cultural bodies for theatre outreach and training programmes across the country.
The workshop in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is expected to bring together participants from different educational and professional backgrounds who have an interest in theatre and dramatic arts.
Officials noted that theatre workshops of this nature also provide opportunities for participants to engage in group-based creative activities, stage exercises and performance-oriented training.
The Islands have witnessed periodic theatre and cultural programmes organised by educational institutions, local theatre groups and government departments, though opportunities for formal theatre training remain limited compared to mainland cities.
The month-long programme is therefore likely to attract students, aspiring performers and individuals associated with cultural activities in the Islands.
The Directorate of Arts and Culture has encouraged interested individuals to submit applications within the prescribed period.
Details regarding the workshop schedule, registration process and participation requirements may be obtained from the Directorate of Arts and Culture, located at the Cellular Jail Complex in Sri Vijaya Puram.
For further information, interested applicants may also contact Shri Swadesh Pandey over telephone number 9474217212.
Officials stated that additional details regarding the dates of commencement, venue arrangements and final selection of participants will be communicated separately after completion of the application process.
