Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 31: The Composite Regional Centre (CRC), Andaman and Nicobar Islands, in collaboration with Hope Foundation, organised the programme on October 30 to mark White Cane Safety Day and promote the Swachhata Hi Seva 6.0 campaign. Divyangjan, students from Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM) and Andaman College (ANCOL), CRC personnel and members of Hope Foundation participated.
The programme began with an awareness rally from the Clock Tower in Aberdeen Bazaar to Tiranga Park. Ram Parvesh, Deputy Director (Science) in the Directorate of Education, flagged off the rally in the presence of Sumithamol S., Director of CRC.
Participants used the rally to highlight the importance of white cane safety, road awareness, accessible public spaces and the right of persons with visual impairment to move independently and with dignity.

White Cane Safety Day recognises the white cane as an essential mobility aid and a symbol of independence and confidence for people with visual impairment. The awareness campaign sought to bring these concerns into public spaces through direct community participation.
A street play near the Mahatma Gandhi Statue subsequently addressed the significance of the observance alongside the objectives of Swachhata Hi Seva 6.0, linking disability awareness with the cleanliness campaign.

Following the performance, the CRC team and other participants undertook a Shramdaan activity in the surrounding area of the statue.
Farida Bibi and her team from Hope Foundation were among those who contributed to organising the programme.
