Maritime Security Coordinator Reviews Marine Police Assets and Coastal Security Infrastructure

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 31:  The availability, maintenance, and operational functioning of marine assets used for coastal security came under review during a visit by National Maritime Security Coordinator Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta (Retd.) to key facilities of the Andaman and Nicobar Police Marine Force in Sri Vijaya Puram on October 30.

Dasgupta inspected the Marine Police facilities at Junglighat Jetty, the Marine Police Workshop and the Marine Police Operational Centre (MPOC) to assess the condition and operational status of equipment and review the infrastructure supporting maritime surveillance and coastal security in the islands.

At Junglighat Jetty, he examined the marine assets deployed by the Marine Police Force and reviewed their availability and operational status. The inspection focused on the assets maintained by the unit and their readiness for operational use.

He subsequently visited the Marine Police Workshop to examine arrangements for the repair, maintenance and upkeep of marine assets and associated equipment. The visit also covered the facilities responsible for maintaining the operational condition of the unit’s equipment.

At the Marine Police Operational Centre, Dasgupta inspected the Marine Police Control Room and reviewed its functioning. Officers briefed him on monitoring, coordination and operational activities undertaken at the centre to support maritime surveillance and coastal security across the islands.

The visit brought the condition of marine assets, maintenance infrastructure and control room operations under review. These facilities form part of the operational infrastructure used by the Marine Police Force for maritime surveillance and coastal security.

The Superintendent of Police (PMF) and State Maritime Security Coordinator for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (PMF) and other Marine Police officers accompanied the visit. They briefed Dasgupta on the facilities and their functioning.

The visit also provided an opportunity to identify areas where the Marine Police Force’s operational infrastructure and maintenance facilities could be strengthened, according to the information provided by the force.
