Sri Vijaya Puram, April 25: Vasantha, Councillor of Ward No. 12, assumed charge as Chairperson of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) for the fifth year of the current tenure (2022–2027) after being administered the oath of office in a formal ceremony held in the Council’s Conference Hall.
The oath was administered by the Deputy Commissioner of South Andaman, Purva Garg, IAS, during a solemn function attended by officials of the District Administration, elected councillors, and staff members of the Municipal Council. The event marked the formal induction of the newly elected Chairperson following the Council meeting held on April 24, 2026.

The election of Vasantha as Chairperson was confirmed during the Council proceedings, after which the oath-taking ceremony was conducted as per protocol. The Chairperson pledged to uphold the Constitution of India and discharge responsibilities with integrity, commitment, and dedication to public service.
Officials present at the ceremony witnessed the formal assumption of office, which signifies the continuation of administrative leadership within the municipal body for the ongoing tenure period. The process reflects the procedural transition of civic leadership within the council structure.
During the function, the Deputy Commissioner extended congratulations to the newly elected Chairperson and expressed confidence in the leadership’s ability to strengthen civic governance in Sri Vijaya Puram. The remarks underscored expectations of improved coordination in municipal functions and enhanced public service delivery mechanisms.
The municipal council plays a key role in managing urban civic infrastructure, sanitation, and local administrative services in Sri Vijaya Puram. The induction of the Chairperson is expected to contribute to continuity in governance and address ongoing civic requirements within the region.
