Sri Vijaya Puram, April 25: A scheduled power shutdown will affect Sri Vijaya Puram and adjoining areas on April 25, 2026, as the Electricity Department undertakes safety-related maintenance work involving critical transmission infrastructure.
The power disruption has been planned between 0700 hours and 1300 hours due to the isolation of Panther-I and Panther-II tie lines. Authorities have stated that the temporary shutdown is necessary to facilitate the cutting and removal of trees located dangerously close to the transmission lines.
The maintenance activity has been initiated following a request from the Executive Engineer (PRI), with the objective of ensuring public safety and preventing potential damage to electricity infrastructure caused by overgrown or unstable trees in proximity to the lines.

Officials have clarified that the outage period is tentative in nature. In case the tree cutting and associated work are completed ahead of schedule, the affected feeders and lines will be recharged earlier than the notified time.
The planned shutdown will impact consumers in Sri Vijaya Puram and surrounding areas, with both residential users and government departments advised to make necessary arrangements in advance to avoid inconvenience during the outage window.
The Electricity Department has also provided channels for public assistance and grievance redressal. Consumers seeking further information have been directed to access the official website of the department. In addition, a toll-free helpline has been made available for reporting power-related issues and registering complaints during the shutdown period.
Authorities have emphasised that the temporary disruption is part of preventive maintenance measures aimed at strengthening the reliability and safety of the electricity distribution network. The removal of hazardous trees near high-voltage lines is expected to reduce the risk of outages and infrastructure damage in the future.
The department has urged consumers to cooperate during the scheduled maintenance window, highlighting that such planned interventions are essential for maintaining uninterrupted and safe power supply across the region.
The situation reflects ongoing efforts to balance infrastructure maintenance with public convenience, particularly in areas where environmental conditions pose risks to transmission systems.
