Sri Vijaya Puram, October 21: The Andaman and Nicobar Police observed National Police Commemoration Day 2026 at Police Lines in Sri Vijaya Puram on Wednesday, joining police organisations across the country in remembering 154 personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty during the year.
The observance brought together serving and retired police officers and families of fallen personnel for a commemoration parade and wreath-laying ceremony. The gathering marked the annual national remembrance of police personnel who died while carrying out their duties.
Director General of Police Ravindra Yadav, IPS, led the observance alongside senior officers of the Andaman and Nicobar Police. Retired Deputy Superintendents of Police and Inspectors also attended the ceremony, along with family members of personnel who had lost their lives in service.

During the ceremony, participants laid wreaths in remembrance of the deceased personnel, acknowledging their service and the losses borne by their families.
National Police Commemoration Day is observed annually on October 21 to commemorate an incident at Hot Springs in Ladakh in 1959, when ten personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in the line of duty.
The observance has since become an occasion to remember police personnel who have died while serving across the country, bringing attention to the risks associated with policing and the impact of such deaths on their families.
The ceremony in Sri Vijaya Puram formed part of this nationwide commemoration, with the Andaman and Nicobar Police joining the annual remembrance through a formal parade and wreath-laying programme.
