Sri Vijaya Puram, October 26: Two residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have reportedly been arrested in connection with the robbery of gold jewellery worth approximately ₹40 lakh from a shop in Nagpur, Maharashtra, according to a report published by The Times of India on October 22.
The newspaper identified the arrested individuals as Muntaqueem Maneer Ahmed, 34, and a co-accused. According to the report, a Nagpur Crime Branch team apprehended the two in Sri Vijaya Puram during an operation connected to the investigation.
The arrests followed the alleged robbery at Dhomne Jewellers on Hingna Road in Nagpur on October 3.

Robbery Under Investigation
According to The Times of India, the robbery involved a group of men who allegedly entered the jewellery establishment, threatened an employee and escaped with gold ornaments estimated to be worth ₹40 lakh.
The newspaper reported that investigators examined CCTV footage and other evidence to identify those allegedly involved in the crime.
The investigation subsequently led police to several suspects, including individuals believed to have travelled outside Maharashtra.
According to the October 22 report, the Nagpur Crime Branch eventually traced two individuals to Sri Vijaya Puram and arrested them in connection with the case.
The newspaper also reported that investigators were examining alleged links between some of the suspects and Muntaqueem Maneer Ahmed.
According to the report, Ahmed had allegedly become acquainted with certain individuals while they were lodged in Chennai Central Jail and was suspected of having assisted them in obtaining bail.
The report further referred to an alleged financial arrangement involving ₹12 lakh towards expenses purportedly incurred in securing bail.
These claims are allegations reported in connection with the police investigation and have not been independently established by The Wave Andaman. The arrests do not constitute proof of involvement in the robbery.
Earlier Murder Investigation
The name Muntaqueem Maneer Ahmed, as reported by The Times of India, bears similarities to that of Muntaqeem Ahmed, an individual named in earlier reports concerning the alleged murder of Andaman businessman and hotelier Niyamat Ali in 2025.
However, The Wave Andaman has not independently established whether the two names refer to the same individual.
The Nagpur jewellery robbery and the Niyamat Ali murder case are separate criminal matters, and no connection between the two alleged offences has been established.
Investigation Continues
According to The Times of India, the arrests in Sri Vijaya Puram formed part of the Nagpur Crime Branch’s investigation into the jewellery robbery.
The precise allegations against each arrested individual, the status of any recovery of stolen jewellery and subsequent judicial proceedings have not been independently confirmed by The Wave Andaman.
All allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial determination, and the individuals named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a competent court.

Niyamat Ali Murder Case
Separately, the alleged murder of Andaman-based businessman and hotelier Niyamat Ali in 2025 remains the subject of criminal proceedings in Tamil Nadu. Ali had reportedly disappeared after travelling to Chennai on business. According to earlier reports published by The Wave Andaman, investigators subsequently arrested several individuals, including a person identified as Muntaqeem Ahmed, in connection with the case. The investigation reportedly examined the circumstances of Ali’s alleged killing and the disposal of his body in Odisha. Subsequent reporting indicated that proceedings had reached the Sessions Court in Chengalpattu following the filing of a police final report. The allegations against the accused remain subject to judicial determination. The Wave Andaman has not independently confirmed whether Muntaqeem Ahmed, named in the murder proceedings, and Muntaqueem Maneer Ahmed, identified in the Nagpur robbery report, are the same individual.
