Sri Vijaya Puram, October 26: The Andaman and Nicobar Command has conducted an eight-week yoga programme for retiring Agniveers at Sri Vijaya Puram, focusing on physical fitness, mental well-being and mindfulness as they prepare to transition to civilian life.
The Naval Component of the Command organised the capsule in coordination with the Ayush Wing, Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and Andaman and Nicobar State Ayush Society under the National Ayush Mission (NAM), according to an official statement issued on Sunday.
The structured programme aimed to equip the personnel with practices to support a healthy and balanced life beyond military service. The initiative focused on physical conditioning and mental well-being, with mindfulness forming part of the preparation for their transition into civilian life.

The programme comes alongside other activities undertaken by the Command to assess operational preparedness across the strategically significant Andaman archipelago.
Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, recently visited Landfall Island, East Island and INS Kohassa to review operational readiness, capability enhancement initiatives and logistical support arrangements at remote locations.
During the visit, McCarty interacted with personnel deployed in challenging conditions. The Command said the discussions included their duties and deployment, while the commander acknowledged their professionalism and commitment to service.
Separately, the Command held a Strategic Leaders’ Conclave as part of its Silver Jubilee celebrations, bringing together former Commanders-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command and senior military leaders to examine the organisation’s 25-year journey.

The discussions covered the changing strategic significance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Indian Ocean Region’s maritime importance and emerging maritime challenges. Participants also considered the Command’s future role in advancing India’s maritime interests and strategic priorities in the Indo-Pacific.
The conclave examined long-term planning, future priorities and the Command’s vision for the next 25 years. The discussions reaffirmed its role as a strategic frontier and maritime arc of power, according to the Command.
Together, the yoga initiative, operational reviews and strategic deliberations reflect three areas of activity within the Andaman and Nicobar Command: preparing retiring personnel for civilian life, reviewing readiness at remote locations and planning for the region’s evolving maritime responsibilities.
