Sri Vijaya Puram, October 26: With competition for government employment increasing, students at Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM) have been encouraged to consider entrepreneurship and professional self-reliance while making career choices. Dr. Dr. Sapna Bansal, Professor and Director and Head of International Outreach and Inclusivity at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), University of Delhi, shared these perspectives during an interaction with B.Com. and M.Com. students in Sri Vijaya Puram.
Bansal urged students to assess their individual strengths and weaknesses, identify their capabilities and evaluate available opportunities before deciding on a career path. She emphasised that developing essential skills and making informed decisions were important steps towards achieving professional independence.
Addressing the challenges associated with conventional employment, particularly the competition for government jobs, she advised students against limiting their ambitions to established career routes. Instead, she encouraged them to consider entrepreneurship as an alternative, develop practical plans and establish clear goals to pursue their professional aspirations.

She also stressed the importance of taking initiative and seeking guidance when necessary to navigate challenges. Her advice placed self-awareness, skill development and structured planning at the centre of career preparation, encouraging students to take a more active role in shaping their professional futures.
The interaction focused on helping students understand how their abilities and interests could inform career decisions while broadening their understanding of opportunities beyond conventional salaried employment. The discussion also addressed the importance of strengthening skills that can support independence and entrepreneurial pursuits.

Dr. Pearl Devdas, Principal of JNRM, opened the programme by introducing Bansal to the students.
The session concluded with an emphasis on developing an entrepreneurial mindset and exploring diverse professional possibilities. For students preparing to enter the workforce, the discussion highlighted the need to combine an understanding of personal capabilities with skills, planning and initiative when evaluating career opportunities.
