Police Crack Sri Vijaya Puram Robbery Case; MP’s Office Monitored Progress

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram | June 29: The robbery incident that occurred early Friday morning at the STS Bus Terminus in Sri Vijaya Puram has been resolved with the arrest of the accused and recovery of the stolen items, police officials confirmed.

The case involved 24-year-old Rakesh Kr Das, a newly appointed GGT Mathematics teacher at VKV School in Rangat. His backpack, containing a dark blue HP Victus laptop, official documents, bank cards, and ₹2,500 in cash, was stolen between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM while he was waiting at the terminus. Following a complaint filed at Aberdeen Bazaar Police Station, a team led by Sub-Inspector Nixon Isaac initiated an investigation.

A key breakthrough came when a municipal worker alerted police to an unattended bag left near a shuttered textile store. This, along with CCTV footage from nearby shops, helped the police identify the suspect. The accused, identified as Nagraj, a resident of Shadipur, was apprehended within hours. A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of the laptop. He has been remanded to judicial custody. As first reported by The Wave Andaman, the swift police action in the robbery case drew attention for its efficiency and coordination.

Police sources told The Wave Andaman that the swift action was made possible due to effective coordination on the ground, timely information from citizens, and administrative support. Eyewitnesses present at the bus stand said they were surprised by how quickly the investigation moved, with multiple agencies reportedly in close communication.

While the police did not issue an official statement attributing the case resolution to any specific individual, local sources said that elected representatives, including Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray, were in touch with the administration to ensure the matter was addressed without delay.

The case has been cited by officials as an example of improved response time and ground-level coordination in the islands’ law enforcement system. Investigations into related thefts, if any, remain ongoing.
