Sri Vijaya Puram, July 24: The South Andaman District Administration has reclaimed 5,425 square metres of government revenue land earmarked for beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) after removing unauthorized encroachments during an eviction drive conducted at Chidiyatapu village.
The action forms part of the Administration’s ongoing enforcement campaign against illegal occupation of government land across the district. According to the Administration, the drive is aimed at protecting public land and ensuring that it is used for its intended public purpose.
During the operation at Chidiyatapu, revenue authorities removed unauthorized fencing erected on government revenue land reserved for PMAY beneficiaries. Following the eviction, the encroached land was restored to government possession.

The Administration stated that an area measuring approximately 5,425 square metres was successfully recovered during the operation.
After clearing the encroachments, revenue officials carried out boundary demarcation of the reclaimed land by erecting boundary pillars and marking the area on the ground. The exercise was undertaken to safeguard the land against future encroachments.
According to the Administration, continuous monitoring and enforcement measures are being carried out across South Andaman to prevent unauthorized occupation of government land and restore encroached land for public use.

The Administration has advised members of the public not to encroach upon government land or undertake unauthorized construction on such properties. It stated that any violation would attract legal action under the applicable laws and regulations.
To strengthen public participation in protecting government property, the Administration has appealed to citizens to report instances of encroachment or unauthorized construction to the District Control Room. It stated that information shared by informants will be kept strictly confidential.
The latest operation is part of the district’s ongoing action to recover government land identified for public welfare projects while maintaining surveillance against fresh encroachments.
