New Delhi, June 24: President Droupadi Murmu conferred 65 Padma Awards during the second Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, recognising distinguished contributions by eminent personalities across fields including arts, sports, medicine, literature, public affairs and social service.
The ceremony marked the second phase of the Padma Awards 2026 presentation, one of the country’s highest civilian honours, celebrating individuals whose work has made a significant impact on society and national development.
Among the prominent awardees, playback singer Alka Yagnik received the Padma Bhushan in recognition of her contribution to Indian music spanning more than three decades. Renowned Assamese sculptor Nuruddin Ahmed was honoured with the Padma Shri for his contribution to visual storytelling and stage craftsmanship.

Other notable recipients included tennis player Vijay Amritraj, actor Mammootty, Carnatic percussionist Thiruvaarur Bakthavathsalam and cricketer Rohit Sharma, reflecting the broad spectrum of achievements recognised through the Padma Awards.
In the field of medicine, Dr. Armida Fernandez was conferred the Padma Shri for her contributions to paediatrics, neonatology and public health. Dr. Suresh Hanagavad also received the Padma Shri for contributions to medical science and healthcare services.
The awards additionally recognised contributions in literature, education and cultural preservation. Dr. Charan Hembram received the Padma Shri for his work in literature and education, while Bhiklya Ladkya Dhinda was honoured for his efforts in preserving Tarpa, a traditional tribal wind instrument associated with the Warli community.
According to official details, the second investiture ceremony saw the presentation of 65 Padma Awards, including two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan and 56 Padma Shri honours.
The first Civil Investiture Ceremony, held on May 25, also saw the conferment of 65 awards comprising two Padma Vibhushan, six Padma Bhushan and 57 Padma Shri awards.
The Padma Awards are announced annually on the eve of Republic Day and recognise exceptional and distinguished service in various disciplines. For 2026, the Government of India announced a total of 131 Padma Awards, including five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri honours.
Of the total awardees this year, 19 are women and 16 individuals were honoured posthumously, reflecting recognition across diverse sectors and contributions. Instituted in 1954, the Padma Awards continue to serve as one of the nation’s highest acknowledgements of excellence, honouring individuals whose work has contributed significantly to India’s cultural, social, scientific and public life.
