Sri Vijaya Puram, May 7: In a significant step towards achieving the vision of “Housing for All,” the South Andaman District Administration has successfully handed over land possession to 105 landless beneficiaries identified under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) in C.D. Block Ferrargunj.
The move comes after the completion of the land demarcation process, which had delayed the commencement of house construction for the beneficiaries despite allotment of land licences earlier.
According to officials, licences for 50 square metre land parcels had already been allotted to each beneficiary on September 3, 2025. However, construction activities could not begin due to pending demarcation and identification of individual land plots.

The Administration has now completed the demarcation exercise, enabling the beneficiaries to formally take possession of the allotted land and initiate construction of permanent houses under the PMAY-G scheme.
Officials stated that the demarcation process was carried out by the Tehsildar along with revenue officials to ensure proper identification and allocation of land parcels to all beneficiaries.
Land possession was formally handed over to beneficiaries belonging to 13 Gram Panchayats under C.D. Block Ferrargunj in the presence of the respective Pradhans and the Block Development Officer (BDO).
The Administration described the development as a major milestone in strengthening the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin in South Andaman district.
Officials said the initiative reflects the Administration’s proactive approach towards inclusive rural development and ensuring that economically weaker and landless families receive timely support for housing and settlement.
The PMAY-G scheme aims to provide pucca houses with basic amenities to eligible rural households across the country, particularly those belonging to vulnerable and disadvantaged sections.
District officials noted that by completing the demarcation process and handing over land possession, the Administration has paved the way for beneficiaries to begin construction without further delays.
The beneficiaries expressed satisfaction over receiving possession of the land, which they said would help them move closer to owning permanent homes under the government housing scheme.
The District Administration reiterated its commitment to continuing similar welfare initiatives and ensuring that all eligible beneficiaries receive necessary support and assistance in a timely manner.
Officials further stated that coordinated efforts among revenue authorities, Panchayati Raj Institutions and rural development officials played a key role in the successful completion of the exercise.
The Administration emphasized that such initiatives are essential for improving living standards, promoting social security and strengthening rural infrastructure in the Islands.
