Sri Vijaya Puram, May 13: The Armed Police Unit (APU) of Andaman and Nicobar Police has announced the launch of “Udaan Summer Camp-2026,” a month-long summer initiative aimed at engaging children, youth and adults in a range of sports, cultural, educational and wellness activities during the vacation period.
The free summer camp will be conducted from May 18 to June 17 at the APU Police Lines and associated venues across Sri Vijaya Puram. The programme is open to police wards as well as members of the general public.
According to the announcement issued by the police department, the initiative has been designed as part of the welfare and community outreach activities of the Armed Police Unit, with a focus on promoting constructive engagement, personality development and healthy recreational participation among young people during the summer holidays.

Police officials said the camp would provide participants with opportunities to improve physical fitness, creativity, teamwork, discipline, confidence and mental well-being through structured sessions conducted by experienced trainers and professionals from different fields.
The month-long programme will feature activities including athletics, cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, chess, boxing, yoga, meditation, painting, sketching, music, dance, tailoring and musical instrument training.
Special career guidance programmes are also planned as part of the camp to help participants explore educational and professional opportunities.
As per the schedule released by the department, athletics, cricket and football sessions will be held at Netaji Stadium during afternoon hours, while several indoor and skill-based activities will take place at Police Lines and Marine Dockyard.
Yoga and meditation sessions will begin early in the morning and will remain open not only to children but also to adults aged eight years and above.
Tailoring classes have been specifically planned for adult participants, while painting and sketching activities have been grouped separately for younger age categories.
Police officials stated that the activities have been divided according to age groups to ensure better participation and training outcomes for attendees.
Sessions will be conducted on weekdays as well as Saturdays, allowing participants flexibility during the vacation period.
The department stated that the concept behind the camp is to create a positive and engaging environment where learning and recreation can go hand in hand while encouraging social interaction and confidence-building among participants.
The initiative also reflects the increasing role of police organizations in community engagement programmes beyond routine law enforcement duties, particularly in youth development and public outreach activities.
Summer camps conducted by government agencies and institutions in the islands have in recent years gained popularity among parents seeking structured extracurricular activities for children during school vacations.
Officials said registration for the camp has already begun and interested participants can collect and submit registration forms through the In-Charge, Police Family Welfare Centre at Police Lines during working hours between 9 am and 6 pm.
Authorities have informed that registration forms must be accompanied by a consent letter signed by parents or guardians.
The last date for submission of forms has been fixed for May 16 till noon.
For further details and clarifications, participants and guardians can contact the official helpline number 9933297697.
The Andaman and Nicobar Police has encouraged both police families and members of the public to participate actively in the camp and make use of the opportunity for learning, recreation and skill development during the summer break.
Officials said the programme has been planned to ensure a balanced mix of physical activity, creativity, wellness and educational exposure, helping participants make productive use of their vacation period while interacting with peers in a disciplined and supportive environment
