Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 4: Andaman & Nicobar Police has secured national-level recognition for its performance across all parameters assessed under the State/UT Performance Matrix for January 1 to August 20, 2026, following the 52nd PRAGATI Review Meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. The assessment covered cybercrime prevention and response, investigation, victim assistance, inter-agency coordination and capacity building.
The Union Territory recorded strong performance across every parameter examined, with the assessment covering a range of technology-driven initiatives aimed at strengthening the cybercrime response system. These included the State Cybercrime Coordination Centre (S4C), e-Zero FIR, Grievance Redressal Module (GRM), Money Restoration Module (MRM), Sahyog and Samanvay platforms, cybercrime hotspot action, CyTrain and information, education and communication (IEC) activities.
The Andaman & Nicobar Islands Cybercrime Coordination Centre (ANI4C) has been established and operationalised, while the e-Zero FIR mechanism has also been implemented in the Union Territory.

A significant change in the handling of cyber financial fraud cases has lowered the threshold for FIR registration from ₹1 lakh to ₹50,000. Under the revised threshold, victims reporting cyber financial losses of ₹50,000 or more can have FIRs registered, enabling them to receive legal and investigative assistance at an earlier stage. Police said the measures have also strengthened coordination with agencies involved in responding to cybercrime complaints.
The force has separately expanded its technical and forensic capabilities through a dedicated Cyber Forensic Training Laboratory at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Police Training Institute (NSCBPTI). The facility provides practical instruction in digital forensics and the scientific handling of electronic evidence to new recruits and serving personnel.
The laboratory is equipped with modern forensic tools and focuses on developing investigators’ capabilities in collecting, preserving, examining and analysing digital evidence. The initiative is intended to support more effective and professional investigation of cybercrime cases.
During the assessment period, coordinated intervention by A&N Police helped recover or restore ₹1,72,51,012 to victims of cyber financial fraud. The recovery reflects the police response towards addressing financial losses and assisting victims of online fraud.
The national recognition highlights the force’s work in cybercrime investigation, response, capacity building and technology-driven policing, while also underscoring the role of public awareness and prompt reporting.
Police have advised citizens to remain alert to online fraud. Victims of cyber financial fraud can immediately contact the National Cybercrime Helpline at 1930, the Cyber Crime Police Station helplines at 03192-230668 and 9531856083, or file complaints through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
