New Academic Facilities Inaugurated at GMSSS Aberdeen

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 12: A new renovated academic block comprising an Activity Room for the primary section, a Home Science Lab, Library Reading Section and Sports Room was inaugurated at Government Model Senior Secondary School Aberdeen on Sunday.

The facilities were inaugurated by Aditya Sangotra as part of efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure and promote holistic student development in the Islands.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Education Department, teachers and school staff.

Officials stated that the upgraded facilities are part of the Administration’s ongoing initiatives to provide modern and practical learning environments for students across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The newly renovated block includes dedicated spaces aimed at enhancing both academic and co-curricular learning opportunities for students.

The Activity Room has been developed for the primary section to support creative and experiential learning activities, while the Home Science Lab has been equipped to improve practical skill-based education for students.

The Library Reading Section has also been upgraded to encourage reading habits, self-learning and academic enrichment among students.

In addition, a Sports Room has been developed to strengthen sports-related activities and support students’ physical development.

Addressing the gathering during the inauguration, Aditya Sangotra emphasised the importance of modernising educational infrastructure in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP-2020).

He stated that improved infrastructure plays a vital role in enhancing the teaching-learning process and creating better academic environments for students.

The Director of Education noted that the upgraded facilities would help address the long-standing demand of the school for improved educational infrastructure and additional learning spaces.

Officials said the initiative reflects the Administration’s focus on improving quality education through better infrastructure, practical learning facilities and student-centric educational approaches.

Earlier, Smti. Sangeeta Chand, Principal of GMSSS Aberdeen, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the institution’s academic achievements and contributions to school education in the Islands.

She stated that Government Model Senior Secondary School Aberdeen continues to remain one of the premier educational institutions in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and has consistently been recognised for its academic performance.

According to the Principal, the addition of the renovated block marks an important milestone in the school’s ongoing development and expansion.

Teachers and staff members expressed hope that the new facilities would further motivate students and create improved opportunities for learning, creativity and extracurricular participation.

Officials added that strengthening school infrastructure remains an important priority under the Education Department’s efforts to improve overall educational standards in the Islands.

The Administration has been undertaking various initiatives aimed at modernising schools, improving classroom environments and promoting skill-based and experiential learning in accordance with evolving educational policies.
