Sri Vijaya Puram, June 11: The Innovation Hub at the Science Centre, Sri Vijaya Puram, has opened registrations for its annual membership programme aimed at encouraging scientific thinking, creativity and innovation among school and college students across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The initiative seeks to provide young learners with a platform to develop practical skills through hands-on activities, project-based learning and exposure to emerging technologies.
Officials said the Innovation Hub has been designed to nurture problem-solving abilities and foster a culture of innovation among students by enabling them to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) beyond the classroom.
Members will have access to tools, equipment, mentoring support, workshops, innovation challenges and opportunities to design and develop working models under expert guidance throughout the year.
Since its inception, the facility has attracted considerable interest among students. Around 2,000 students have visited the Innovation Hub, while several enthusiasts have enrolled as annual members and contributed innovative suggestions through the facility’s “Idea Box”.
The programme is open to both individual students and educational institutions.
For individual memberships, school students from Classes VI to XII can enroll at an annual fee of Rs. 2,000, while students pursuing science and engineering courses at the college level can become members for Rs. 4,000 per year.
Sessions for individual members will be conducted on Saturdays and Sundays in two batches—from 10.30 am to 1 pm and from 2.30 pm to 5 pm.
Institutional memberships have also been introduced to enable schools and colleges to provide structured exposure to innovation and STEM activities. Schools can enroll for an annual fee of Rs. 6,000, while colleges can avail membership for Rs. 8,000 per year.
Institutional visits and activities will be conducted from Tuesday to Friday between 10.30 am and 1 pm, and from 2.30 pm to 5 pm, subject to prior booking.
Officials noted that the programme offers students an opportunity to work on innovative solutions, develop technical skills and gain practical exposure that complements formal education.
The initiative is also expected to encourage greater participation in science and technology-based activities and help identify young talent with potential for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Interested students, schools and colleges can visit the Science Centre during working hours between 10.30 am and 5 pm for membership registration.
