Sri Vijaya Puram, August 18: Improving access to quality learning spaces remains central to strengthening educational opportunities in remote regions. In a step towards expanding educational and community resources, the renovated and modernised District Library at Car Nicobar was inaugurated with upgraded facilities aimed at promoting reading, learning and creative development among students and residents. The project was completed with assistance under the National Mission on Libraries (NML), Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District Amit Kale, IAS, inaugurated the renovated library in the presence of Nandini Maharaj, IAS, and Lionald Nicomede, Chairman of the Tribal Council, Car Nicobar. The upgraded facility has been developed to provide improved infrastructure and learning resources for students as well as the wider community.
The inauguration programme included an inspection of the renovated library and its enhanced facilities. Among the additions is the Musical Art Room, named “CHOUK MAHAKOP TINKOOKO,” which forms part of the upgraded infrastructure created under the project. The event also featured a musical presentation by students of Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Lapathy.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Kale encouraged students to make regular use of the library and develop reading habits by taking advantage of the learning resources now available. He said the facility should serve as an active centre of learning and knowledge for the children and youth of Car Nicobar, while supporting their educational development.
Nandini Maharaj interacted with students during the programme and urged them to make full use of the library, the music room and the study materials provided. She encouraged students to utilise the upgraded facilities available for their learning and academic growth.
Delivering the welcome address, Education Officer, Car Nicobar, Swapan Paik highlighted the significance of the modernised library in encouraging reading, learning and creativity among students. He underlined the role of the upgraded facility in supporting educational activities and creating a more conducive learning environment.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Everlyn, Vice Principal of GSSS Malacca. The renovated District Library, supported under the National Mission on Libraries of the Ministry of Culture, has been developed to strengthen access to improved reading and learning facilities while providing a dedicated space for educational and creative activities for students and the local community.
