Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 9: A new literacy initiative for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) has been launched in Diglipur with the inauguration of a Language Club at the Language Lab of GPS Subashgram, aimed at supporting language development and their participation in literacy activities.
The initiative was organised by the Block Project Office, Diglipur, under Samagra Shiksha as part of the Inclusive Education programme. The club seeks to provide children with special needs meaningful opportunities to engage in language and literacy activities while strengthening their language development.
The initiative was launched on the occasion of International Literacy Day 2026, which was observed under the theme, ‘Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity.’ The observance highlighted literacy as a fundamental human right and stressed the importance of ensuring that every child, including those with special needs, gets opportunities to develop literacy skills.
The Language Lab at GPS Subashgram was inaugurated by Elencheliyen, Up-Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Subashgram, who attended the programme as the chief guest. The inauguration marked the formal opening of the facility in connection with the inclusive literacy initiative.
Dr C. Pushpavalli, Block Project Officer, BPO Diglipur, was present during the programme organised by the Block Project Office.
The establishment of the Language Club places children with special needs within the scope of literacy-focused activities under the Inclusive Education initiative. The programme also connects the International Literacy Day observance with efforts to ensure that literacy opportunities are accessible to children with diverse needs.
The initiative at Subashgram represents a focused effort under Samagra Shiksha to promote language development among CwSN and enable their meaningful involvement in literacy activities. The Language Lab will serve as the setting for the newly inaugurated Language Club, bringing the initiative directly into the school-level education environment.
