Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug 24: Sri Vijaya Puram’s Science Centre used National Space Day 2026 to engage school students in science and space-related activities, organising painting and quiz competitions aimed at encouraging scientific interest and creativity among young learners.
The celebrations were held around the theme, “Towards Viksit Bharat: Innovating, Collaborating and Aspiring to Global Space Leadership”. Students, teachers and science enthusiasts participated in the programme, with separate competitions conducted for primary- and middle-level school students.
In the painting competition for primary-level students, Alka Tirkey of St. Mary’s School, Mohanpura, secured the first prize. S. Gnanashreeka of Kamaraj English Medium School, Brookshabad, won the second prize, while Shreya of Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Pathergudda, stood third. Aayoseen Bruna of Government Girls Senior Secondary School received the consolation prize.
The middle-level quiz competition saw Hardik Chakravarty of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Lamba Line, emerge as the winner. Dhruv Kumar B of Kamaraj English Medium School, Brookshabad, was declared the first runner-up, while Shibli Hassain Gazi of Government Model Senior Secondary School secured the second runner-up position.
The competitions formed a key part of the Science Centre’s National Space Day programme, providing students an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and creative abilities while engaging with the broader theme of India’s aspirations in space and technology.
At the felicitation ceremony, Satyaki Paul, Head of Office, Anthropological Survey of India, attended as the chief guest and appreciated the Science Centre’s efforts to promote scientific temper among students. He also encouraged students to explore new ideas and pursue their interests in science and technology.
Earlier, Debashis Paul, Education Officer, Science Centre, welcomed the gathering and outlined the significance of National Space Day.
The programme brought together students from schools across Sri Vijaya Puram for activities that combined creativity, knowledge and an interest in science, with the Science Centre using the occasion to encourage greater engagement among young learners with science and technology.
