Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 23: Allegations of a job-for-money racket targeting aspiring government employees have surfaced in South Andaman, with an FIR registered against three residents of Sri Vijaya Puram following complaints that they allegedly collected money from job seekers on the false promise of securing government employment.
The FIR was registered at Pahargaon Police Station against Sharif Khan, Usha Kumari and Rinku Mala Mondal after an enquiry into complaints received from multiple individuals. The case centres on allegations that the accused acted together to obtain substantial sums of money from job seekers by assuring them of government jobs that were allegedly never arranged.
According to the enquiry, statements from several complainants were recorded during the preliminary investigation. The complainants alleged that they were persuaded to pay significant amounts after being assured that government employment would be arranged for them.
The enquiry further found that the alleged payments were made through different modes, including cash, cheques and online transfers. In some instances, agreements, promissory notes or undertakings were also executed in connection with the transactions, according to the findings placed on record during the enquiry.
Despite receiving the money, the accused allegedly neither secured the promised government jobs nor returned the amounts paid by the complainants, the enquiry found.
Officials stated that the complaints reflected a similar pattern of alleged conduct, leading investigators to identify what they described as a common modus operandi. Based on the material gathered during the enquiry, authorities said prima facie evidence of cheating emerged, following which an FIR was registered for further investigation.
The investigation will now examine the allegations, the financial transactions and the circumstances surrounding the promises of employment.
The case also highlights the continuing risk posed by fraudulent employment schemes that target individuals seeking government jobs. Authorities have appealed to anyone who may have experienced similar incidents involving promises of government employment in exchange for money to come forward and report the matter.
