Sri Vijaya Puram, August 22: Employees, trainees and representatives of maritime and government organisations came together at Marine Hall, Sri Vijaya Puram, for an Onam celebration organised by CANSRU, bringing members of the maritime community together for a programme centred on cultural traditions and fellowship.
Hemant Kumar, IAS, Secretary, Shipping, attended the event as the chief guest, while Jose V. J., Chief Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard Limited, was present as a distinguished guest. Senior officials and representatives from the Coast Guard, Mercantile Marine Department (MMD), Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), Port Management Board (PMB), Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) and Labour Department also participated in the programme.
The celebration marked Onam with a traditional feast followed by cultural performances and traditional dances presented by CANSRU employees and trainees.
The programme brought together participants from different maritime and government organisations beyond their regular professional responsibilities. The gathering provided an opportunity for employees, trainees and officials to participate in the cultural observance and interact with one another in an informal setting.
The organisers said the celebration reflected the values of unity, cultural harmony and togetherness associated with Onam. Participation from various departments and organisations also contributed to the programme’s emphasis on camaraderie among members of the maritime community.
The cultural segment featured performances and traditional dances by CANSRU employees and trainees, adding to the programme organised at Marine Hall. The Onam feast formed another central part of the celebration, allowing participants to observe the festival through its traditional culinary practices.
The participation of senior officials alongside employees and trainees underscored the broad involvement of the maritime community in the event. Representatives from the Coast Guard, MMD, SCI, PMB, DSS and Labour Department joined CANSRU members for the celebration.
The programme concluded with the organisers thanking the dignitaries, participants and volunteers involved in the event.
The celebration provided a platform for members of the maritime and government organisations in Sri Vijaya Puram to observe Onam together through traditional food, cultural performances and community participation.
