Fish Seed Distribution Drive to Benefit Wandoor Farmers on August 18

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, August 17: The Department of Fisheries of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration will distribute freshwater fish seeds to fish farmers in Wandoor village on August 18 as part of its initiative to support freshwater aquaculture and improve access to quality fish seed for local farmers.

According to the department, the Freshwater Fish Seed Farm at Nayagaon has successfully produced freshwater fish seeds of Indian Major Carps (IMC), which are now ready for distribution among interested fish farmers in the area.

The distribution programme is scheduled to begin at 9.30 a.m. on August 18 at the Gram Panchayat Office, Wandoor. Fish farmers interested in procuring the seeds have been requested to collect them directly from the designated distribution centre.

The department stated that each oxygenated packet containing fry-sized fish seeds will be available at a cost of Rs 135. Payments for the fish seed packets can be made at the venue during distribution.

The initiative is intended to make fish seed produced at the government-run hatchery available to local fish farmers for freshwater aquaculture activities. The Nayagaon Freshwater Fish Seed Farm supplies Indian Major Carp fish seeds for distribution to eligible beneficiaries through such programmes.

Farmers intending to purchase the fish seeds have been advised to be present at the Gram Panchayat Office, Wandoor, at the scheduled time to collect the oxygenated packets.

The distribution is part of the Department of Fisheries’ ongoing efforts to provide fish farmers with access to freshwater fish seed produced through government facilities.
