Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 03: Poultry farmers in South Andaman received training on timely vaccination and disease prevention as veterinary authorities sought to strengthen preventive health practices and reduce disease-related losses in poultry farming.
The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), South Andaman, conducted the two-day programme at Wandoor Gram Panchayat on August 28 and 29 under UT-ATMA. The training focused on the importance of vaccination in preventing and controlling diseases affecting poultry.
Resource persons from ICAR-CIARI and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Sri Vijaya Puram, joined Senior Veterinary Officers from Central Hatchery, Dollygunj, and Central Livestock Farm (CLF), Dollygunj, to conduct technical sessions and interact with participating farmers.

The programme covered timely vaccination as well as measures for preventing and controlling major poultry diseases. Participants were also trained on scientific health management, biosecurity, sanitation and general flock management.
The training highlighted preventive healthcare as an important part of poultry management, with farmers sensitised to its role in reducing losses caused by diseases and improving productivity.
A visual presentation on major infectious diseases of poultry formed a specific component of the programme, giving participants an overview of diseases affecting poultry. The sessions also allowed farmers to raise practical concerns related to poultry health and disease prevention directly with the participating experts.
The programme included farmer-expert interactions, through which technical resource persons discussed issues raised by participants concerning disease prevention and flock health management.
Wandoor Gram Panchayat Pradhan Adhir Das attended the programme and encouraged farmers to adopt scientific practices in poultry farming.
The training concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
