Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 03: Veterinary authorities provided treatment and nutritional support to bovines during an infertility camp at Rajiv Nagar on August 29, as part of an ongoing programme aimed at addressing reproductive health issues among cattle across the Islands.
The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) conducted the camp to support livestock owners through timely diagnosis, treatment and measures to address nutritional deficiencies linked to bovine reproductive health.
During the camp, veterinary personnel dewormed 16 animals and provided mineral mixture supplements to another 16 animals to address nutritional deficiencies. Three animals received Tonophosphan injections as part of the veterinary interventions carried out during the programme.
The camp also provided targeted treatment for cattle identified with anoestrus, a condition affecting reproductive cycles. Estrocid Bolus was administered to three cattle found to be in anoestrus, while three cattle with anoestrus accompanied by nutritional deficiency received Rumentas Bolus.
Alongside the treatments, veterinary personnel advised livestock owners on scientific nutritional management of cattle. The guidance covered balanced feeding, adequate green fodder, concentrate feed and access to clean water, with the department stressing their importance for maintaining reproductive health and supporting animal productivity.
The livestock owners were also advised to ensure timely treatment when infertility-related conditions arise and to maintain regular health monitoring of dairy animals. The focus on nutrition and preventive monitoring formed part of the veterinary guidance provided during the camp.
The Rajiv Nagar programme is part of a continuing series of infertility camps being organised by AH&VS across the Islands. The initiative seeks to address infertility-related concerns in bovines while providing dairy farmers with veterinary assistance and nutritional support.
The department is continuing to organise such camps as part of its efforts to improve livestock productivity and support the dairy sector. Through the camps, AH&VS is focusing on timely identification and treatment of infertility conditions alongside nutritional management for bovines.
