Sri Vijaya Puram, June 20: In a move aimed at increasing youth participation in skill development programmes, the Directorate of Industries, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has extended the deadline for submission of applications for admission to its one-year conventional training programmes for the academic session 2026-27.
The extension allows aspiring candidates additional time to apply for vocational courses being offered at training centres across South Andaman, North Andaman, Little Andaman and Car Nicobar. The last date for submission of application forms has now been extended to July 15, 2026.
According to the Directorate, the decision was taken to ensure wider participation among eligible youth and to enable more candidates to benefit from government-supported vocational training opportunities designed to enhance employability and technical skills.
The training programmes will be conducted at four designated centres across the Islands. At the Sri Vijaya Puram Centre, courses will be offered in Tailoring and Garment Making, Cane and Bamboo Handicrafts, Carpentry and General Engineering. The Diglipur Centre will provide training in Tailoring and Garment Making, General Engineering and Carpentry.
At the Hut Bay Centre in Little Andaman, candidates can enroll in General Engineering and Carpentry courses. The Car Nicobar Centre will offer training in Tailoring and Garment Making, Carpentry, Coir and Coir Products, and General Engineering.
The Directorate has specified eligibility criteria for admission. Applicants must have passed Class X, be between 15 and 45 years of age as on July 1, 2026, possess a valid Local Certificate of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and be medically fit as certified by a government doctor.
Eligible trainees who maintain at least 80 per cent attendance during the course period will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 1,000 upon completion of the training programme.
Officials have advised interested candidates possessing the required qualifications to obtain application forms from the Directorate of Industries or from the Department’s Extension Offices located at Diglipur, Hut Bay and Car Nicobar.
Applicants must submit duly completed forms along with self-attested supporting documents, including educational qualification certificates, local certificates, age proof and category certificates. The documents are to be submitted directly to the respective outstation in-charges or section in-charges before the revised deadline.
The extension is expected to provide additional opportunities for eligible youth across the Islands to access vocational education and acquire industry-relevant skills through structured training programmes offered by the Directorate of Industries. The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen skill development and improve employment prospects among local youth through technical and vocational education.
