Three-Day Deadline Issued to Clear Illegally Parked Vehicles Across Andaman

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, April 18: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has directed owners of abandoned and illegally parked vehicles to remove them from public spaces within three days, warning of strict enforcement action for non-compliance.

In a public notice, authorities said a significant number of vehicles, including both private and commercial, have been found occupying roads, road berms and shoulders across the islands in violation of traffic regulations and public safety norms.

The directive applies to vehicles classified as abandoned as well as those habitually parked in non-designated areas. Officials stated that such practices obstruct traffic movement and pose safety risks, prompting the administration to intervene.

Vehicle owners and operators have been instructed to relocate their vehicles to designated parking spaces within three days from the date of the notice. Authorities have made it clear that failure to comply within the stipulated period will lead to enforcement measures under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Motor Vehicles (Driving) Regulations, 2017.

According to the notice, enforcement teams will initiate action against vehicles found parked illegally after the deadline. Measures will include towing of vehicles, imposition of fines and wheel-clamping, along with other actions permitted under existing laws.

Officials said the cost of towing and related operations will be borne by the vehicle owners. They also clarified that any damage occurring during the removal or shifting process will be the responsibility of the owner.

The administration has urged the public to cooperate with the directive, emphasising the need to maintain clear roadways and ensure safe movement for all road users.

Authorities reiterated that the move is aimed at improving traffic management and reducing congestion caused by indiscriminate parking across urban and rural areas of the islands.

The notice marks a renewed enforcement push as part of ongoing efforts to address traffic discipline and public safety concerns in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
