Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 3: With drug abuse emerging as a key public concern, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration on Sunday intensified its anti-narcotics awareness campaign by organising the district-level programme under the nationwide ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ in Sri Vijaya Puram. The initiative brought together students, youth volunteers and members of the public to reinforce the message of a drug-free society and encourage greater community participation in preventing substance abuse.
The programme was organised at the auditorium of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT) by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration in collaboration with MY Bharat under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. The campaign formed part of the nationwide initiative aimed at raising awareness among young people about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encouraging them to contribute towards building a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
Chief Secretary Chanchal Yadav administered the Anti-Drug Pledge to a large gathering of students and youth, reaffirming a collective commitment to eliminating drug abuse and promoting a healthy and responsible lifestyle. The pledge marked a key component of the programme, with participants joining in the nationwide resolve to support efforts towards a drug-free India.
The event was attended by senior officers of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, faculty members, students from various colleges in and around Sri Vijaya Puram, MY Bharat volunteers and members of the public. Their participation reflected a coordinated effort to engage educational institutions, government departments and the wider community in the anti-drug awareness campaign.
As part of the nationwide observance, participants also viewed the live address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which formed an integral component of the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ being held simultaneously across the country.
The campaign witnessed significant participation across South Andaman district, with around 1,000 MY Bharat volunteers and youth joining the initiative. The large turnout underscored the Administration’s continuing efforts to mobilise young people in support of drug awareness initiatives and strengthen the message of a drug-free and developed India.
The district-level programme formed part of the broader nationwide campaign promoting youth participation in combating substance abuse through awareness, public engagement and collective responsibility, with students and volunteers taking centre stage in spreading the message against drug addiction across the islands.
