A&N Govt Announces Cash Awards for Athletes With National, International Medals

In a move to recognize and reward the sporting talents of the Union Territory, the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, A&N Administration, has called upon all Government Departments and UT-level Sports Associations recognized by the A&N State Sports Council (A&N SSC) to submit the names of outstanding sportspersons for the annual cash prize distribution.

The eligible candidates must have secured positions or medals in recognized National and International championships held between April 2024 and March 2025. The nomination must be submitted in the prescribed format, which is available at the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Netaji Stadium, during office hours. Duly filled-in forms, accompanied by attested copies of certificates issued by the respective National-level Organizations, Associations, or Federations, must be submitted on or before August 20, 2025.

As per the notification, cash prizes will be awarded to athletes based on the level of competition and the position achieved. For National Championships in individual events, Sub-Junior level winners will receive ₹30,000 for gold, ₹25,000 for silver, and ₹20,000 for bronze. Junior National Championship winners are entitled to ₹35,000 (gold), ₹30,000 (silver), and ₹25,000 (bronze). For Senior Nationals, the prize money increases to ₹50,000, ₹35,000, and ₹25,000 for the respective medal positions.

Participants in the National Women Sports Festival and National competitions under the PYKKA Scheme will be awarded the same as Senior Nationals: ₹50,000 for gold, ₹35,000 for silver, and ₹25,000 for bronze. Special Olympics (National), catering to mentally or physically challenged athletes, will also follow the same cash award structure.

Sportspersons excelling in National Games (Individual Events) will receive higher rewards, with ₹3 lakh for gold, ₹2 lakh for silver, and ₹1 lakh for bronze medalists.

At the International level, athletes competing in Asian Championships are eligible for ₹4 lakh (gold), ₹3 lakh (silver), and ₹2 lakh (bronze). Winners of Asian Games or Commonwealth Games will receive ₹5 lakh for gold, ₹4 lakh for silver, and ₹3 lakh for bronze. Olympic medalists will be awarded the highest cash prizes, ₹10 lakh for gold, ₹8 lakh for silver, and ₹6 lakh for bronze.

It is important to note that in the case of team events, the prize money will be equally distributed among the team members.

The initiative underscores the Administration’s continued commitment to promoting sports and encouraging athletes who bring national and international recognition to the islands.
