Seven-Day Road Closure in Teylerabad for Resurfacing Work, Traffic Diverted via Alternate Route

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), April 17: Vehicular movement along a key road stretch in Teylerabad will remain suspended for seven days starting April 17, following an official order issued by the District Magistrate of South Andaman to facilitate infrastructure works.

The closure applies to the road segment between GPS Teylerabad School Junction and Sub Centre (Jio Office Junction) in Teylerabad. Authorities stated that the restriction will remain in force until April 23 to enable road resurfacing and the construction of cross drainage structures, including RCC Hume pipe culverts, by the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD).

The order has been issued under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, read with the Andaman and Nicobar Administration’s notification dated March 10, 2008. Officials said the temporary closure is necessary to ensure the safe and timely execution of the ongoing works.

During the closure period, all vehicular traffic will be diverted through an alternative route to maintain connectivity and reduce disruption. Commuters travelling through the affected stretch will be required to use the diversion route via GPS Teylerabad, RSN Junction through NTS Junction, Garacharma Junction, and Old Bimblitan, with the same route applicable in reverse direction.

Authorities indicated that traffic regulation measures have been put in place to manage vehicular flow along the diverted route. The administration has urged residents, commuters, and transport operators to plan their travel accordingly and comply with the temporary traffic arrangements.

The closure is expected to impact daily commuters and local traffic movement in the area, particularly during peak hours. However, officials maintained that the work is essential to improve road conditions and drainage infrastructure in the region.

The administration has appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities and adhere strictly to traffic guidelines during the period of restriction to ensure smooth execution of the project and avoid congestion along alternative routes.
