Teen divers from Andaman joined a 2,400 sq m underwater tricolour attempt at Swaraj Dweep, aiming for a Guinness World Record.

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 02: Three teenage divers were among the notable participants in Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ attempt to set a Guinness World Record by unfurling a large Indian tricolour underwater at Swaraj Dweep.

Fateh Jahaan Singh Dhaliwal, a Class 12 student of The Shri Ram School, Gurgaon, was among the youngest male divers who joined the attempt. He is the son of Hargobinder Singh Dhaliwal, Director General of Police, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Lavanya Eira Bhushan, a 15-year-old Class 11 student of Rishi Valley School, was also among the youngest participants in the coordinated underwater exercise. She is the daughter of Dr Chandra Kumar Bhushan, Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration.

Ranvijay, a Class 10 student aged 15, was the youngest participant in the record attempt. He is the son of Ms. Chanchal Yadav, IAS (AGMUT 2008), Commissioner-cum-Secretary in the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, who handles key portfolios including Information, Publicity and Tourism, and has been actively engaged in promoting sustainable tourism and infrastructure development, including representing the islands at major travel forums such as SATTE.

The three students were part of a diving team of nearly 180 participants that assembled at Radhanagar Beach for the record attempt. The exercise involved synchronised underwater positioning to unfurl a 2,400 sq m Indian national flag under the supervision of Guinness World Records officials.

The event also included trained personnel from the Indian Navy, Forest Department, Police Marine Force and the local scuba diving community.

The underwater flag attempt is part of a four-day programme at Swaraj Dweep. A second challenge, aimed at creating the tallest underwater human stack, is also planned at the offshore Lighthouse Dive Site.

Officials said the participation of young divers reflected growing interest in scuba diving, adventure tourism and ocean-based activities in the islands.

The record attempt is currently undergoing verification. If certified, it would place Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Guinness World Records and further strengthen Swaraj Dweep’s profile as a major diving and adventure tourism destination.
