Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 14: Residents and students from across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands took part in a 10-km mini marathon at North Bay, placing fitness and participation in organised sport at the centre of an event held under the Tourism Events Calendar 2026–27.
The North Bay Mini Marathon was organised by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs in collaboration with the Directorate of Education and the Directorate of Information, Publicity and Tourism (IP&T). The race covered a route from Chunnabatta to North Bay Beach and back to Chunnabatta.
The event featured separate 10-km open races for men and women, with participation from the general public as well as school and college students from different parts of the Islands.

Sukhranjan Biswas, Joint Director, MY Bharat, flagged off the men’s open 10-km race, while Venkat Ram Babu, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Wimberlygunj, flagged off the women’s race.
In the men’s open category, Raja finished first, followed by Sandeep in second place and G. Ram in third. In the women’s category, Arpita Toppo secured first position, while Stuthy and Sakchi finished second and third, respectively.
The winners received medals and trophies from the guest of honour during the concluding ceremony.
The participation of members of the public alongside school and college students reflected the event’s focus on sports participation, fitness and healthy living. The 10-km format also brought participants together across different age and community groups, according to the event details.
V. Ranjith Kumar, Assistant Director (Sports), Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, delivered the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the programme.
