Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 16: Hindu Rashtra Shakti, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has appealed to Islanders to light an ‘Ashirvad Ka Diya’ at their homes on the evening of September 17, 2026, to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday and his 25 years of service as head of a government.
The organisation has called for the observance across the islands on the evening of September 17. It has also urged participants to share photographs or 15-second videos of the diya-lighting with their families on social media.
In a statement, Hindu Rashtra Shakti State Youth President Angshuman Roy said the organisation would observe the occasion across the islands from the evening of September 17.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was born on September 17, 1950. His 75th birthday falls on September 17, 2026. The Prime Minister entered his 25th year as head of a government in October 2025, after taking oath as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001.
The organisation described the September 17 observance as ‘Seva Diwas’ and linked the diya-lighting programme to what it described as the Prime Minister’s years of public service.
Roy also referred to a number of Central government schemes and infrastructure initiatives while explaining the organisation’s appeal. Among the schemes mentioned were Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat and PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi.
The statement also highlighted infrastructure and connectivity projects in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, including the Chennai-Andaman-Nicobar Islands submarine optical fibre cable and the integrated terminal at Veer Savarkar International Airport. It also referred to projects associated with the Island Development Agency and development plans for Great Nicobar Island.
The organisation specifically cited the proposed Great Nicobar Island development project, including an International Container Transshipment Terminal, greenfield airport, power plant and township, as part of its account of development initiatives in the Islands.
It also referred to the renaming of Port Blair as Sri Vijaya Puram and the renaming of several islands after freedom fighters and Param Vir Chakra awardees.
Roy said the diya would be an expression of gratitude and blessings from beneficiaries of Central government schemes and development works in the Islands. The organisation said the initiative was intended to connect the Andaman and Nicobar Islands with the national observance.
The appeal asks Islanders who wish to participate to light a diya at home on the evening of September 17, take a photograph or a 15-second video with their family and share it on social media.
The organisation has called for widespread participation across the Islands, describing the proposed diya-lighting as a collective tribute to mark the Prime Minister’s birthday and his public service.
The appeal comes ahead of September 17, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will turn 75. The Prime Minister’s Office recorded in 2025 that Modi had entered his 25th year of serving as the head of a government, tracing the milestone to his first oath as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001.
The organisation’s statement also frames the proposed observance around the government’s stated development vision, including ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’. The Prime Minister has publicly used the Viksit Bharat goal in discussing India’s development objectives.
Hindu Rashtra Shakti has invited Islanders to participate voluntarily by lighting the ‘Ashirvad Ka Diya’ at their homes on September 17 and sharing their participation on social media.
