Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), May 3: The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has added another remarkable milestone to its achievements by setting a new Guinness World Record for the “Tallest Human Stack Underwater,” measuring an impressive 20 metres. The record was successfully created in the clear, pristine waters near Swaraj Dweep, close to the jetty area, marking a historic moment for the islands.
The record-breaking feat involved a team of highly trained divers forming a perfectly aligned vertical human chain beneath the sea surface. The formation was led by Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Admiral (Retd.) D. K. Joshi, who held the Indian National Flag at the top of the stack. The symbolic gesture represented unity, courage, and the maritime strength of the nation, making the event both visually striking and deeply patriotic.
Officials confirmed that the entire attempt strictly adhered to Guinness World Records guidelines. These included compliance with safety protocols, depth requirements, diver coordination standards, and official verification procedures. The human stack maintained its structure for the required duration, ensuring its eligibility for global recognition. This achievement has once again placed the Andaman and Nicobar Islands prominently on the international map of adventure and marine excellence.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from a diverse group of divers, including experienced professionals, trained personnel, and young diving enthusiasts. This blend of expertise and youthful energy played a crucial role in executing the complex underwater formation with precision. The successful coordination of multiple divers in a challenging marine environment highlights the growing capabilities of the region in organizing large-scale underwater events.
This accomplishment becomes even more significant as it follows closely on the heels of another record-setting event held just a day earlier at the same location. In that event, a massive underwater tricolour unfurling was carried out by a large number of divers in a synchronized display. Together, these back-to-back achievements demonstrate the islands’ increasing prominence as a hub for adventure tourism and underwater activities.
Authorities have described these twin accomplishments as a matter of immense pride for both the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the nation as a whole. The events not only celebrate technical excellence in diving but also reflect a broader vision of promoting marine sports, eco-tourism, and global recognition for the region.
With its crystal-clear waters, rich marine biodiversity, and expanding infrastructure, Swaraj Dweep continues to emerge as a key destination for underwater exploration and adventure. The successful execution of such complex feats signals a promising future for the islands in hosting international-scale events while showcasing India’s maritime strength and unity on a global platform.
