270 Grams Suspected Heroin Seized In Diglipur; 25-Year-Old Man Arrested Under NDPS Act

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 14: A 25-year-old man was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, after police allegedly recovered around 270 grams of suspected heroin from his possession near Kali Mandir at Sitanagar in Diglipur late on September 12.

The accused, identified as Saham Roy, a resident of Shantanu in Kadamtala, was intercepted during a late-night operation by personnel from Diglipur Police Station following information that he was allegedly carrying a substantial quantity of heroin and was travelling towards Sitanagar to hand it over to another person.

Police acted on the information received on September 12 and conducted a raid in the Sitanagar area. During the operation, the team stopped Roy near Sitanagar Kali Mandir and searched him.

The substance recovered during the search weighed approximately 270 grams. Police tested the material at the spot using a drug detection kit, which returned a positive result for heroin, according to the police account.

The suspected contraband was seized and taken into police custody in accordance with prescribed legal procedures. Roy was subsequently arrested under provisions of the NDPS Act, while further investigation remains underway.

The seizure comes amid continuing concerns over the movement of narcotic substances in the North and Middle Andaman district. The police said intelligence-led operations and legal action against suspected narcotics-related activities would continue across the district.

The police have appealed to residents to report credible information concerning drug-related activities through emergency numbers 100 and 112 or by approaching the nearest police station.

According to the police, the identities of informants will be kept confidential, while suitable rewards will be provided for information that leads to actionable results.

The case will now be subject to further investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged possession and intended transfer of the suspected contraband.
