SVPMC Conducts Road Inspection Across Multiple Wards To Prioritize Repairs And Development

Date:

The Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council (SVPMC) carried out an extensive road inspection in Wards 15, 17, and 24, aiming to assess existing infrastructure and prioritize repair and development works. The inspection was led by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Arjun Sharma, IAS, along with SVPMC Secretary Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, and senior municipal officials.

The visit was conducted in the presence of respective Ward Councillors, who accompanied the team to highlight local concerns and provide inputs on ongoing and planned projects. Officials reviewed the conditions of existing roads, drainage systems, and other civic amenities, identifying areas that require immediate attention to improve commuter safety and convenience.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of timely execution of repair and improvement works, underlining the role of infrastructure in enhancing public safety and mobility. During the inspection, the team focused on both urgent repair requirements and longer-term development priorities, ensuring that the public receives effective civic services.

SVPMC Secretary directed the engineering staff to prepare detailed proposals for addressing identified issues, with a particular focus on timely resolution. Maintenance works were instructed to be undertaken on a priority basis, reflecting the administration’s commitment to efficient service delivery. The proactive approach aims to mitigate recurring infrastructure problems and improve the quality of urban roads.

Ward Councillors expressed appreciation for the structured inspection process, acknowledging the administration’s efforts to address public grievances effectively. They assured cooperation in implementing solutions and facilitating communication between residents and municipal authorities.

The road inspection is part of a broader initiative by SVPMC to enhance urban infrastructure across the city. By systematically assessing conditions in multiple wards, the council seeks to identify gaps, allocate resources efficiently, and implement projects that meet the needs of residents. The exercise also enables officials to monitor the quality of ongoing repair works and ensure accountability in project execution.

Beyond road maintenance, the inspection considered the adequacy of drainage systems and other civic amenities, recognizing their importance in preventing flooding and ensuring smooth urban mobility. The administration aims to integrate these assessments into comprehensive development plans, aligning repair works with long-term urban planning objectives.

This inspection aligns with the SVPMC’s broader vision of improving public infrastructure, enhancing service delivery, and ensuring that residents experience safer and more convenient commuting conditions. Through structured monitoring and engagement with ward representatives, the council aims to strengthen its governance mechanisms and make data-driven decisions for infrastructure upgrades.

Officials noted that timely identification of problem areas, combined with strategic planning and community involvement, is key to improving the effectiveness of municipal services. By engaging Ward Councillors and local representatives, the council ensures that developmental priorities reflect the concerns of residents, enabling transparent and responsive governance.

The SVPMC reiterated its commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure, prioritizing maintenance works, and addressing public grievances efficiently. The inspection in Wards 15, 17, and 24 serves as a model for similar exercises in other parts of the city, ensuring that development projects are implemented in a systematic and accountable manner.

Through proactive planning, timely interventions, and collaboration with local representatives, the SVPMC aims to provide sustainable improvements in urban infrastructure, contributing to a safer, cleaner, and more livable South Andaman.
