Sri Vijaya Puram, May 16: The Directorate of Transport, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, will organise the “Integrated Road Safety Awareness and Transport Service Outreach Programme (Phase-II)” across various Panchayats, rural localities and higher educational institutions in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands between May and September 2026.

The programme is being conducted as part of ongoing road safety awareness initiatives aimed at promoting responsible road usage and improving public access to transport-related services, particularly in rural and remote areas of the Islands.

The first phase of the programme conducted between June and October 2025 received significant public participation and covered multiple awareness and transport service activities. Building on that initiative, the second phase will now be implemented on an expanded scale across South Andaman, Little Andaman, North and Middle Andaman and Nicobar districts.

The awareness sessions will focus on subjects including the importance of helmet and seatbelt usage, risks associated with over-speeding and drunken driving, traffic discipline, pedestrian safety, trauma care awareness and compliance with road safety regulations under the Motor Vehicles Act.

The representatives from the Transport Department, Police Department and Health Department will participate in the awareness programmes. Demonstrations on first aid and basic trauma care will also be conducted during the outreach camps.

In addition to awareness activities, several transport-related citizen services will be made available at the camps, including learner’s licence facilitation, learner’s licence tests, on-the-spot medical examinations for licence applicants, renewal of driving licences, collection of road tax, renewal of registration certificates and permit-related services.

Vehicle-related facilitation services and grievance redressal support will also be provided during the camps.

As part of the outreach initiative, camps will also be conducted in higher educational institutions across the Union Territory. Eligible students and staff members will be facilitated for learner’s licence tests and other transport services during the institutional programmes.

According to the schedule released by the department, the programme will cover Panchayats and localities across South Andaman, Diglipur, Mayabunder, Rangat, Kadamtala, Baratang, Little Andaman and Nicobar districts between May and September 2026.

Higher educational institutions including Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya, Dr B R Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences and other colleges will also host outreach camps under the programme.

The Transport Department has appealed to Gram Panchayats, educational institutions, drivers, vehicle owners, students and members of the public to actively participate in the programme and support efforts aimed at improving road safety awareness and responsible driving practices in the Islands.
