Sri Vijaya Puram, July 20: A sensitization and training programme on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 was conducted for officers and staff of the Office of the Assistant Commissioner (Settlement), aiming to strengthen awareness of workplace safety, statutory responsibilities and the legal framework governing the prevention and redressal of sexual harassment.
The programme was held at the Auditorium of TGCE and focused on enhancing employees’ understanding of the provisions of the POSH Act while reinforcing institutional mechanisms for ensuring a safe, inclusive and respectful work environment.
Addressing the participants, Priyanka Kumari, Additional District Magistrate (South Andaman), highlighted the significance of the POSH Act in safeguarding employees at the workplace. She stressed the importance of making officers and staff aware of their rights and responsibilities under the legislation and emphasized the collective responsibility of every employee in maintaining a workplace free from sexual harassment.
The technical session was conducted by Rubina Siddiqui, President of Right for All NGO and a Certified POSH Trainer. During the interactive session, she explained the key provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, including its objectives, complaint redressal mechanisms and the respective roles and responsibilities of employers and employees under the statutory framework.
The programme witnessed active participation from officers and staff of the Office of the Assistant Commissioner (Settlement). Participants interacted with the resource person throughout the session and sought clarifications on various provisions of the Act to strengthen their understanding of workplace rights and institutional procedures.
Members of the Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) constituted for the offices of the Deputy Commissioner (South Andaman), Assistant Commissioner (South Andaman) and Assistant Commissioner (Settlement) also attended the programme. Their participation was aimed at strengthening their understanding of the implementation of the POSH Act and the statutory responsibilities entrusted to the committee under the legal framework.
The sensitization programme focused on creating greater awareness of the legal safeguards available under the POSH Act while reinforcing the role of institutional mechanisms in addressing workplace complaints. The session also highlighted the importance of informed participation by employees and committee members in ensuring effective implementation of the Act.
The training concluded after discussions on the legal provisions, complaint redressal process and responsibilities prescribed under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, with officers, staff and Internal Complaint Committee members participating in the awareness initiative.
