PM Modi Chairs NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting on Viksit Bharat 2047

Date:

New Delhi, June 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the 11th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog on Thursday, bringing together Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors and senior policymakers from across the country to discuss a roadmap for inclusive human development and the vision of a developed India by 2047.

The meeting, to be held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, will be centred on the theme “Inclusive Human Development for Viksit Bharat @2047”, with discussions focusing on ensuring that the benefits of growth reach every section of society irrespective of region, age, gender or socio-economic background.

According to an official statement, the Governing Council will deliberate on strategies to translate the national vision into measurable outcomes that improve the quality of life of citizens across the country.

The discussions are expected to revolve around four key pillars: strengthening foundational human capital and future-ready skills, promoting productive employment and entrepreneurship, improving health and wellbeing, and ensuring equity and dignity for all.

Officials said the meeting would also examine measures to encourage entrepreneurship, expand skill development initiatives and generate sustainable employment opportunities. Particular emphasis is likely to be placed on improving coordination between the Centre and states in implementing development programmes.

Another major focus area will be the role of governance reforms, digital public infrastructure, partnerships and data-driven decision-making in achieving development goals. Participants are expected to discuss mechanisms for tracking short-, medium- and long-term outcomes to ensure accountability and measurable progress.

The meeting comes as the Centre seeks to align state-level development priorities with the broader national objective of achieving inclusive and sustainable growth under the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.

The Governing Council will also review recommendations emerging from the 5th National Conference of Chief Secretaries held in December 2025. Those recommendations covered five major sectors: early childhood education, school education, skill development, higher education and sports and extracurricular activities.

The annual Governing Council meeting is the apex platform for collaboration between the Centre and states under NITI Aayog and is expected to witness extensive discussions on policy priorities and implementation strategies.

The gathering will be attended by Chief Ministers of states and Union Territories, Lieutenant Governors and Administrators of Union Territories, Union Ministers serving as ex-officio members, as well as the Vice Chairman, members and Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog.

Among the key participants is Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, who arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day visit. Sources indicated that he is expected to outline Tamil Nadu’s development priorities and seek greater central support for infrastructure, welfare and economic development initiatives.

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has also confirmed his participation and said he would raise issues concerning the state’s interests during the deliberations.

The outcomes of the meeting are expected to shape policy discussions between the Centre and states in the coming months, particularly in areas related to education, employment, human capital development and inclusive growth, as India works towards its long-term development goals for 2047.
