Sri Vijaya Puram, June 17: Aspiring actors, theatre enthusiasts and performing arts lovers in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will soon have an opportunity to receive professional training from one of India’s premier theatre institutions, with the Directorate of Arts & Culture announcing a month-long theatre workshop in collaboration with the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi.
Scheduled to commence on June 25, the workshop forms part of the Administration’s efforts to strengthen theatre culture in the Islands and encourage greater participation in the performing arts among youth and the general public.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at nurturing local talent, providing structured training opportunities and creating a platform for emerging performers to develop their artistic abilities under professional guidance.
The month-long programme will culminate in the staging of a theatrical production involving workshop participants, which will be directed and presented with the support of NSD faculty. Organizers believe the final performance will offer participants practical exposure to the complete process of theatre production while showcasing local talent before island audiences.
Applications have been invited from residents interested in exploring theatre, drama and stage performance. However, participation will be limited to only 30 individuals, making the programme a highly selective opportunity for aspiring artists.
According to the Directorate of Arts & Culture, applicants must be above 18 years of age and should be willing to commit themselves fully to the duration of the workshop. Officials emphasized that regular attendance and active participation will be essential to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the training programme.
A selection committee comprising representatives from the National School of Drama and the Arts & Culture Department will evaluate applications and select participants.
The workshop has been designed as an intensive training programme covering multiple aspects of theatre and stagecraft. Participants will receive instruction in acting techniques, voice modulation, movement, stage presence, dramatic interpretation and other essential elements of performance.
