NSD and A&N Administration Launch Month-Long Theatre Workshop for Island Youth

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 19: In a move aimed at strengthening theatre and performing arts in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Directorate of Arts and Culture, A&N Administration, has announced a month-long theatre workshop in collaboration with the National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi, beginning June 25.

The programme seeks to provide aspiring theatre enthusiasts with professional training in various aspects of stage performance while encouraging greater participation in dramatic arts among the youth and general public of the Islands.

According to the Directorate, applications have been invited from island residents interested in exploring theatre, drama and stage performance. Participation in the workshop will be limited to 30 candidates, who will be selected through a screening process conducted by a committee comprising officials from the National School of Drama and the Directorate of Arts and Culture.

Applicants must be above 18 years of age and willing to commit to the full duration of the workshop. Officials stated that regular participation is essential to ensure effective learning and practical engagement throughout the training programme.

The workshop will offer intensive instruction in acting, stagecraft, voice modulation, movement and dramatic interpretation. Participants will receive training under the guidance of faculty members from the National School of Drama, one of the country’s premier institutions for theatre education and performance.

Organisers said the initiative is designed not only to develop artistic and performance skills but also to encourage confidence, teamwork and cultural awareness among participants. The programme is expected to provide practical exposure to various elements of theatre production and performance.

A major highlight of the workshop will be the staging of a play involving the participants upon completion of the training. The production will be presented by the National School of Drama, providing participants with an opportunity to showcase the skills acquired during the workshop.

The Directorate of Arts and Culture stated that interested individuals can obtain details regarding the programme and application process from its office located at the Cellular Jail Complex. Additional information can also be obtained by contacting Swadesh Pandey, HGC, on phone number 9474217212.

The last date for submission of applications has been fixed as June 23, 2026. Officials have encouraged eligible islanders with an interest in theatre and performing arts to apply within the stipulated deadline and take part in the professional training initiative.
