Sri Vijaya Puram, July 2: Long-pending infrastructure demands in Lohabarrack and Memiyo villages under Wandoor Panchayat have moved closer to implementation, with proposals for road connectivity, drinking water facilities and public infrastructure progressing through official procedures after remaining unresolved for several years.
During a public interaction with local residents, Prakash Adhikari announced that multiple development initiatives are advancing to address basic civic infrastructure deficiencies that have affected the two villages for decades. The proposed projects include road connectivity, water supply infrastructure, educational facilities and community amenities.
Adhikari said Lohabarrack, a settlement established more than five decades ago, has remained disconnected from the main road network, forcing generations of residents to face transportation challenges. He stated that the process of land allotment for a nearly three-kilometre road has been completed, paving the way for the project to move forward.
According to Adhikari, the road proposal has been submitted under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-IV). He added that preliminary surveys and technical assessments required for the project have already been completed as part of the approval process.
Besides road connectivity, Adhikari informed residents that several other infrastructure proposals are under consideration to improve public services in Lohabarrack. These include plans for constructing a reservoir, establishing a water treatment plant, strengthening drinking water supply infrastructure, developing a new Anganwadi centre, improving school facilities, creating playgrounds and undertaking additional community development works.
He also addressed infrastructure concerns in Memiyo Village, also known as Daya Sagar Colony, where residents have reportedly experienced severe road connectivity problems for the past 15 to 20 years due to the absence of an all-weather road.
Adhikari stated that the proposed road project had faced delays because of land-related disputes. However, following sustained efforts involving the Revenue Department and the District Administration, the required land has now been converted, enabling the project to proceed through the necessary administrative process.
He informed residents that the proposed road for Memiyo Village is estimated to cost more than ₹45 lakh and is currently undergoing the required official approvals before implementation. He expressed confidence that the project would move forward shortly, providing improved access and connectivity to families residing in the colony.
The announcements indicate progress in addressing several long-standing civic demands raised by residents of both villages, where inadequate infrastructure has remained a persistent concern despite repeated requests over the years.
Adhikari also acknowledged the support extended by the District Administration, Revenue Department, Public Works Department officials and local residents in advancing the development initiatives. He said the proposed projects represent an important step towards improving public infrastructure and addressing the long-pending needs of communities in Lohabarrack and Memiyo under Wandoor Panchayat.
