Sri Vijaya Puram, July 28: Police in North and Middle Andaman have seized illicit liquor and destroyed 300 litres of fermented wash during a raid at Kishorinagar, as part of an ongoing drive against the illegal manufacture and sale of country liquor in the district. The operation resulted in the registration of a case under the Excise Regulation, with further investigation continuing to identify any wider links connected to the illegal activity.
The raid was carried out on July 27 by a specialised team from Kalighat Police Station after officers acted on specific intelligence regarding the suspected manufacture of illicit liquor near a residence in Kishorinagar.
During the initial search, police recovered 3.6 litres of illicit liquor from the location. According to police, sustained questioning of the suspect during the operation led the team to a forested area behind the property.
The subsequent search of the area resulted in the recovery of 300 litres of Lehan, a fermented wash used in the manufacture of illicit liquor, concealed inside large drums. Police destroyed the recovered Lehan at the site in accordance with legal procedures and seized the finished liquor.
Following the operation, a case was registered under the Excise Regulation. Police said the investigation is continuing to determine whether the operation has links to a broader network involved in the manufacture or distribution of illicit liquor.
According to the North and Middle Andaman District Police, the raid forms part of an ongoing enforcement campaign targeting the illegal production and sale of bootleg liquor across the district. The department stated that similar enforcement operations will continue as part of efforts to curb violations of the Excise Regulation and address illegal alcohol-related activities.
Police have appealed to members of the public to report information relating to the illegal manufacture or sale of liquor to the nearest police station or through the emergency helpline numbers 100 and 112. Information can also be shared by calling 03192-273344.
The department stated that the identities of informants will be kept confidential and that rewards will be provided for actionable information leading to enforcement action.
The latest seizure comes amid continuing enforcement against illicit liquor operations in North and Middle Andaman, with investigations now focused on establishing the full extent of the activity uncovered during the Kishorinagar raid.
