Sri Vijaya Puram, July 16: Hut Bay Police have recovered 522 grams of suspected Charas (Hashish) concealed beneath a tree in a jungle near Chidiya Nallah in Little Andaman during an anti-narcotics operation, with an investigation now underway to trace those responsible for hiding the contraband.
According to information, the recovery was made on Tuesday after Inspector Pritam Behari, Station House Officer (SHO) of Hut Bay Police Station, received specific intelligence about a suspicious plastic packet allegedly hidden in the jungle near the Lighthouse seashore at Chidiya Nallah.
Acting on the information, a police team was constituted under the supervision of the SHO following directions from SDPO (Swaraj Dweep) Ankesh Yadav. Before proceeding to the location, police associated two local residents as independent witnesses to ensure transparency during the search proceedings.

The substance found inside the packet was examined using a drug detection kit, which allegedly indicated that it was Charas (Hashish). The recovered contraband was then weighed on an electronic weighing machine and was found to weigh 522 grams.

Police completed all mandatory legal formalities under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act before seizing the contraband. The seized substance was sealed at the spot in the presence of the witnesses and subsequently deposited in the police station malkhana for safe custody.
Police said the investigation is underway.
Police are continuing the investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the concealment of the contraband and identify those responsible.
