Anti-Narcotics Police Andaman Bust Drug Network, Arrest Co-Accused in Ganja Case

Date:

Summary

Anti-Narcotics Police Andaman arrested a co-accused in a 6.33 kg ganja seizure case, expanding a probe into an interstate drug network linked to Kolkata. The accused was allegedly involved in transportation, coordination, and local distribution of contraband in Sri Vijaya Puram. The investigation revealed financial and digital links connected to the network. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to dismantle the wider trafficking chain operating across regions.

Sri Vijaya Puram, May 23: The Anti-Narcotics Police Station has arrested a co-accused in an ongoing drug trafficking case linked to the seizure of 6.330 kilograms of ganja, marking a significant development in an interstate narcotics investigation under the NDPS Act, 1985.

The case originates from FIR No. 08/2026 dated April 17, 2026, registered under Sections 20(b)(ii)(B) and 29 of the NDPS Act following the interception of a passenger carrying narcotics through an air route. The initial seizure took place when one accused, identified as R. Murugananthgam, a private driver from New Pahargaon, Sri Vijaya Puram, was detained upon arrival from Kolkata via an Air India Express flight. A search of his luggage led to the recovery of 6.330 kilograms of ganja concealed inside a bag, following which he was arrested and placed in judicial custody after completion of legal procedures.

Subsequent investigation continued into the wider network behind the consignment. On May 21, 2026, authorities arrested another accused, identified as S. Stalin David, a resident of Dolly Gunj, Sri Vijaya Puram, after technical analysis and examination of digital and financial evidence established his alleged role in facilitating the transportation and distribution chain.

Investigators stated that the accused was allegedly involved in coordinating the movement of narcotics from Kolkata to Sri Vijaya Puram and assisting in local distribution to consumers in smaller quantities for illegal monetary gain. The probe also indicated that financial transactions linked to the network are under scrutiny as part of efforts to trace the broader operational structure of the trafficking chain.

The investigation revealed interstate linkages involving carriers and associates connected to the transport and dispersal of contraband substances. Authorities continue to examine digital records and financial trails to establish the full extent of the network.

The case is being investigated by Sub-Inspector Manoj Lai under the supervision of Inspector K. Binoj, Station House Officer, Anti-Narcotics Police Station. Officials stated that sustained examination of technical evidence and backward-forward link analysis led to the identification and arrest of the co-accused.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Smti Suma Madda, DANIPS, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Narcotics), and overall guidance of Shri Jitendra Kumar Meena, IPS, Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID), Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Authorities noted that the case reflects ongoing efforts to dismantle organised drug trafficking networks operating through interstate routes. The investigation remains active as officials continue to map financial and operational linkages associated with the seizure.

The Andaman and Nicobar Police has urged the public to report any suspicious activity related to narcotics trafficking or substance abuse through designated helpline numbers, including 112, 234216, 94342 80055, and 9531856080, reinforcing community participation in combating drug-related offences.
